This is a concept I've been working on for awhile that combines the adaptogenic and androgenic benefits of pine pollen with a unique system to dramatically enhance its active compounds' absorption.
While most pine pollen tinctures are only weakly active, this formulation utilizes hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin complexed with the phyto-androgen content. Normally androgens are broken down in the gut when taken orally, but studies suggest that these fat-soluble hormones are much more bioavailable when they're bound to this compound. This allows hormones found naturally in pine pollen to be absorbed and provide more benefit. These hormones include DHEA, testosterone, androsterone, and androstenedione.
This formula also utilizes a combination of broken cell wall pine pollen, and a potent pine pollen extract to achieve maximum concentration of active compounds, with each milliliter of tincture containing the equivalent of several grams of pine pollen. The flavonoid chrysin is also added, which may have some ability to inhibit aromatase and upregulate StAR, the rate limiting protein in testosterone synthesis.
Ingredients: pine pollen powder (cell wall broken), 20:1 pine pollen extract, chrysin, hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin
Dosage: 1-4 droppers of tincture per day, equivalent to approximately 1-4ml
For maximum absorption of its active compounds, it's suggested to hold the tincture under the tongue for a few minutes before swallowing.
